The Sun & Moon!

Today we talked about the Sun and moons. We learned that Earth has only one moon and it gets its glow from the reflection off the sun. We also learned that the sun is a very hot ball of gas and the moon is a rock covered in dust. All of these things shocked the kids!!

Happy 5th Birthday Libby!!

Zoom Rocket Zoom!!

Today we talked about Rockets and Space Ships. For art the kids made either rockets or space ships. We put straws inside of them so they could blast off when then kids blew into them. It was a fun activity after they were all made.

Constellations

Today we continued talking about Outer Space. We focused today on the Stars. We learned about the constellations and how stars can form a picture in the sky. The kids talked about wishes they would make on a shooting star if they saw one today. For art the kids made their own constellations. We had a few creative ones and a few of the kids made the Big Dipper since that was one of our examples we talked about of a constellation. We tried to talk about the North Star but we kept getting off track and it somehow became the star that points to Santa Clause in the North Pole.

Outer Space

This week we are talking about Outer Space. This is always a fun and exciting week. The kids enjoy learning about our Solar System and we have fun centers. We are also repeating the letter N for our writing. This week is also the start of sight words and rhyming words. We will have one or two words each week that we will focus on for sight words. We are also working on our birthdays. Some kids still need a little help remembering when their birthdays are, so we will refresh that this week as well. For art today we placed the planets around the sun and made our own Solar System.

How do you tie a shoe?

This is why I love my job. It's special when a child wants to learn but needs a little extra push. Last week Libby asked me "how do you tie shoes?". I usually spend a week in March/April teaching kids this task. Some kids are interested and some are not. At first Libby did not think she would be able to do it. I told her it was easier than she thought. I showed her one time slowly and she watched closely. The first few times the bow wasn't perfect but by the 5th try (this video) she did it! As you can see we were both excited by her accomplishment. Afterwards I had two more girls excited to learn. #PROUDTEACHERMOMENT!
