President's Day

Today for President's day. We made Bald Eagles for art using our handprints for the wings. We talked about George Washington's birthday and the reason why President's day started. I was very impressed how many kids knew GW was on the quarter and $1 bill. We also talked about "Honest Abe" and how he was on the penny and $5 bill. For centers today the kids were assigned partners and together they had to pick out a center they both wanted to play with. When they got bored they were able to put that center away and pick another one. They asked me how old George Washington was and I told them next week he would have been 283 years old. Instead of saying "that is old" or having a reaction like that. They just said "Wow that is like the age of a Grandma and Grandpa". Hmm not really!! hahaha.
